Davy College, located in the Andes, in the city of Cajamarca, north of Peru, at an altitude of 2,750 m over sea level, owes its name to Sir Humphry Davy, inventor of one of the first safety lamps used in mining. It also highlights the importance of this industry in the regional economy.
In 1995, when Davy College was founded, there were few recognized international schools outside of Lima. The inspiration that since then, moves Davy College, provides a first-rate educational service, in Cajamarca, which has all the necessary elements to provide an updated curriculum, giving students a comprehensive, balanced and holistic training.
In the beginning the school followed a British curriculum. Aiming towards this goal, in 1997, Davy College joined the British Schools of Peru (BSP) and the Latin American Heads Conference (LAHC) memberships, the latter being an association that links 48 schools of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela, enhancing the competitive and collaborative international profile, which ultimately benefits teachers and students.
The end of the century sees the beginning of the internationalization of the curriculum, incorporating the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB DP). Following, the other two IBO programs, Middle Years (MYP) and Primary Years (PYP) programs are added. These last two programs remained in vogue until 2013.
Between 2004 and 2014, programs and / or certifications that enrich our educational offer are incorporated, such as: Houghton-Mifflin Reading, Six Traits (6 + 1) of Writing, Second Step Skills for Social and Academic Success, Raz Kids, Everyday Mathematics, which go on to strengthen kindergarten and elementary school curricula. During this period, the school is certified as a Cambridge Assessment Center, promoting internationally recognized certifications, facilitating access to them for our students and the general public in Cajamarca.
The relationship with the Latin American Head Conference is consolidated, allowing the school to participate in all the activities and benefits granted by the membership. At the same time, Davy College is accredited as an active member of the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award (DoE) program, which is part of student's self-development. It is present in more than 144 countries, participating only schools that wish to take the student’s comprehensive training to a higher level.
As of 2018, the implementation of Fieldwork Education, a British international curriculum begins, through its three programs; IEYC (International Early Years Curriculum), IPC (International Primary Curriculum) and IMYC (International Middle Years Curriculum).
Today, 25 years after, the inspiration that gave rise to Davy College , continues to be valid, always keeping in mind Davy College’s purpose is the excellence in the formation of its students. Davy College, forming leaders for the world!
